If you’re a professional photographer you know that your time is 80% computer/other business-y things, 10% shooting & 10% time for yourself (if that).  For those professional photographers that don’t have their lives divided into this sort of pie, congrats.  This is certainly something that I struggle with.  I absolutely love my job.  That is seriously an understatement though.  My business is my baby.  My business started to form when I was 19 years old, still in college & had about .80 to my name. When I look back on it though I would say my business started to form when I was in high school but that will have to be another post.  I didn’t start my business to become rich, be a boss or avoid the daily grind. To be honest I fell into it.  I simply did what I loved everyday and this is where I ended up & I couldn’t be happier.  This is where it’s going to get real though.  When your business starts to take off it’s like a whirlwind.  Then one day you wake up and BREATHE. The more my business grew & more years past I found myself spending less and less time for ME things.  Isn’t the “me” time where all my creativity started? YES!  If you’re reading this & shaking your head then let’s do this together.  You know how you mark off time on your calendar for your clients?  for your marketing? for your accounting?  WHERE IS YOU!?  Like I said, let’s do this together.  Go right now, with me, and let’s mark off some “you” time on our calendars.

As a creative business owner it’s really important to keep your brain thinking creatively, find enough TIME TO RELAX, never take things TOO seriously and grow WITH your creative industry.

These are just a few ways I have kept my creative juices flowing & spent my “me” time.  I’m writing them down, not just for this post, but for me to remember as well.  Or perhaps I should tattoo them on my forehead? Tattooing things on your forehead could also be a good method ;)

-Fill 1 IDEA BOOK every few months.  I prefer a small book that will fit in my purse and has graph paper.
-Bike rides. I LOVE biking & I often use winter as an excuse (I do live in Wisconsin, but not cool). Alt: walking
-a good glass of wine & chit chat
-explore new places & travel
-sit at a coffee house and blog, and breathe

So here I am.  Sitting at a coffee house blogging.  I walked here from my house & now I’m enjoying a yummy drink and unwinding…..ahhhhh
